ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

South Florida’s new science festival in the Arts & Entertainment District of downtown Fort Lauderdale

The Festival brings together leaders in STEM, with families and science-lovers of all ages and abilities to celebrate the wonder of science, showcase technology innovations and open minds to STEM careers in our region’s major industries! Powered by the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS), the Festival inspires our community to connect, create, innovate and celebrate STEM in our lives. This two-day science fest features spectacular events, environmental films, engaging exhibitors and exciting demonstrations to make science accessible, interactive and fun! 

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Science Festival welcomes individuals from all walks of life to experience and discover inspiring science. The Festival is open to everyone: individuals and families with physical and emotional disabilities and all levels of education, social and economic status. We embrace our truly diverse community including every family structure, ethnicity, religion, gender identification and sexual orientation. All are welcome here.

Festival Objectives: 
  • Demonstrate how science impacts everyday life in South Florida. 
  • Increase dialogue about STEM and its place in our quickly-changing world.
  • Engage our community and science experts from across the globe in the excite­ment and wonder of science. Highlight South Florida’s vast STEM resources and positive impact on lives.
  • Inspire youth and the young-at-heart people to seek careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in South Florida’s keystone industries.
  • Connect science and society via collaboration and partnership with universities, cultural institutions, libraries, corporations, research labs and government agencies.
  • Spotlight resiliency strategies and action plans through conversations with leaders of Broward County and municipalities through the Museum’s Hub for Resiliency Education.
  • Excite and encourage attendance among underserved learners, schools and educators, many of whom live close to the Museum.
  • Promote travel and visitation to and within Broward County and Greater Fort Lauderdale.

  • What is the Visit Lauderdale Science Festival?

    The Visit Lauderdale Science Festival is a premier STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) showcase celebrating our area’s industry leaders in STEM education, advancements and careers. Events range from adult-friendly events, to discussions and demonstrations (for all ages).

  • Where is the Festival held?

    The Festival will take place primarily in the heart of the downtown Arts & Entertainment District of Fort Lauderdale at the Museum of Discovery and Science (MODS) and Esplanade Park.

  • How much does it cost to attend? Do I need to pre-register?

    The majority of the Festival programming is free to attend, but requires preregistration. Select events require a purchased ticket. Check back soon!

  • Who can attend the Festival?

    Just like STEM, the Visit Lauderdale Science Festival is for everyone! Science is fun for all ages. Most activities are family-friendly with something for everyone to enjoy. The Festival welcomes the local community and visitors from out of the area.

  • What happens if it rains?

    Bring your rain gear, as the show must go on! The Festival is a rain or shine event including inside spaces. We will closely monitor the weather reports, and should there be rain in the forecast, we will activate our inclement weather plan. 

  • How can I get involved?

    You can get involved in the Visit Lauderdale Science Festival by applying to be a sponsor, presenter, exhibitor or volunteer!

Parking
Directions

Parking is available at several locations surrounding the Museum of Discovery & Science. Lots operated by the City of Fort Lauderdale include the Arts & Entertainment Garage and street parking along SW 2nd Street. Parking in these areas is recommended. Rates vary from $1.50-$3.00 per hour. Special event rates may apply.

Additional parking can be found on the east and west sides of the Museum. These lots are operated by private companies. Rates may vary.

IMPORTANT:  DO NOT PARK WITHOUT PAYING. The lot operators will tow your car if you do not pay or stay longer than your time on the meter.
